Electronic Music – Maloya Roots – Experimental Sounds

“A thumping techno odyssey centred on the bobre instrument.” — The Guardian

From Saint-Denis, Réunion Island, Jako Maron channels the ancestral rhythms of Maloya through modular synthesis, analog drum machines, and immersive textures. His acclaimed albums on Nyege Nyege Tapes, including Mahavélouz (2025), blend traditional percussion and the bobre with forward-thinking electronics—praised by Bandcamp as “a singular treasure… startlingly novel as it is viscerally familiar.”

A magnetic live performer, Maron has lit up Roskilde Festival 2025 and is confirmed for a WOMEX 2025 showcase. Beyond his solo work, he composes for theater and visual arts (notably the 2019 Venice Biennale’s German Pavilion) and leads the live-electronic Maloya ensemble Kabar Jako.
